// MISSION /// OUR CHARTER

We investigate for one reason: to find the truth.

AIRRAD researches fringe, Fortean and paranormal claims. We have no position to defend, no audience to please and nothing to sell on the outcome. We look at what happened, as carefully as we can, and report it without bias or reservation.

// ORIGIN

How AIRRAD began

Two events started this work. We hold them to the same standard as any case we take on.

A line of lights, and a flare

Two amber lights and a white one, in a line, beside a bright flare. The origin of what this photograph shows is unknown.

The AIRRAD hexagon is built from this image.

What we will do

  • Take every claim seriously enough to check it properly.
  • Test ordinary explanations first, and say so when one fits.
  • Report what the evidence shows, even when it is inconvenient or unremarkable.
  • Keep every record, recording and note exactly as collected.
  • Treat witnesses and the people who contact us with respect and discretion.
  • Correct our own findings openly when new evidence changes them.

What we will not do

  • Start a case with a conclusion already in mind.
  • Promise proof, or promise that nothing is there.
  • Mock, dismiss or sensationalise anyone's experience.
  • Leave out findings because they don't fit a story.
  • Quietly edit or delete a record once it is logged.
  • Publish identifying details without consent.
// STANDARDS OF EVIDENCE

Words we use precisely

Every finding we report carries one of these labels, so you always know how far the evidence goes.

Verified

Confirmed by independent evidence we have examined directly.

Unverified

Reported but not yet confirmed. Not the same as false.

Explained

A known cause accounts for the evidence, and we show which.

Unexplained

No known cause fits the evidence we have. A finding, not a verdict.

// METHOD

Research, then field work

Investigation is mostly careful, unglamorous work. That's where the truth usually is.

  1. STEP 01Intake and background researchLocation history, public records, weather, astronomy and prior reports.
  2. STEP 02Witness interviewsRecorded with consent, separately where possible, without leading questions.
  3. STEP 03Site investigationMeasurements and recordings logged with time, place and equipment used.
  4. STEP 04Analysis and reviewEach explanation tested against the evidence and checked by a second investigator.
  5. STEP 05ReportA plain-language finding with its evidence label, shared with the requester first.
